The wolf is an extraordinary and intelligent predator. Less than 100 wolves survived in the central-southern Apennines around the end of the 1960s. Since then, the wolf has slowly expanded its area through and nowadays, seven or eight packs of wolves are living in the territory of the Abruzzo National Park.
During this three-day experience we will explore the extraordinary social life of wolf, following the paths and the valleys of the Park, participating also in beautiful evening hikes. We will discover its role as a predator, and its historical and difficult relationship with human beings.
This wild landscape is also home to chamois, deer, the rare Marsican brown bear and golden eagles. As well as welcoming people and its rustic villages. With an expert local guide, you’ll learn how to follow traces and about the Apennines and its importance.

In the Central Apennines rewilding area Rewilding Europe is working with local partners to develop large “coexistence corridors” by connecting the local economy with wilder nature in five corridors collectively covering more than 100,000 hectares.
By reducing the damage caused by such wildlife, and by allowing communities to benefit from it, people living here will become ambassadors for the area’s wild nature.
Rewilding Europe is working with local partners to reduce bear mortality and conflict by installing traffic accident prevention measures, removing old fencing, restoring and improving signage, and distributing new mobile electric fences.
By working to establish a vibrant nature-based economy in the Central Apennines rewilding area, Rewilding Europe is providing local communities with an economic incentive to protect such wildlife.
