Home to wolves, wisent, deer, boar and more

Day 1:  Arrival in Kootwijk: Welcome to the Veluwe! You will be welcomed with a cup of coffee and a typical snack. Our wildlife guide will give you a crash course in 'wildlife tracking' so that you know exactly which tracks you will encounter along the way.

Afterwards, it is time for a nice hike over sand drifts, along heathlands and through dense forests. Wildlife guide Leo will tell you all about the Veluwe, rewilding, wolf and the bison in the area.

Tired but satisfied you arrive at the comfortable Trails Camp near Hoog Soeren. You can relax here by the campfire.

Chances are you'll spot deer and wild boar from the camp, with a gin-tonic in hand. With the sun low on the horizon, it's time for whisky and stories. If the temperature decreases or the weather turns, you can throw some wood in the wood stove of the log cabin and sit inside.

After a long evening under the stars, you will crawl into your safari tent for a wonderful night's sleep in nature.

Day 2: At dawn, you get up for a sunrise wilderness safari with our wildlife guide. Upon returning to camp, our chef will be waiting for you with a full safari breakfast. Check out around 11:00u and departure. In the days after, you can reminisce about the wonderful time you enjoyed together.

Since this year Veluwe Trails Camp has started a no plastic policy, and plans to go full on solar energy later this year. They use local seasonal ingredients only and the only meat they serve is wild sustainable meat from the Veluwe.

Meet Jonathan

"From an early age I have traveled the world. By motorcycle through Mongolia, West Africa and Southeast Asia, and with a 4 × 4 through the rugged landscapes of Scotland or Botswana. When I returned I was always amazed at the beauty in my own country.

The Veluwe in particular appealed to my imagination with its vast forests, heaths and sand drifts. I often get the "Africa feeling" over me here. If you look out over the heathland and you see a herd of deer walking, it looks like a savanna."

"In 2016 we started with a dream: the African outback experience in Dutch nature. We wanted to show the beauty of Dutch nature by stimulating the imagination of our guests.

We wanted to do this with minimal impact on nature. Since then we have been working on transformative nature experiences in which nature conservation and luxury reinforce each other to the maximum."
